Matcha and Red Bean (adzuki beans) are commonly paired together in Japanese culture and throughout Asia. The sweetness and creaminess of the red beans complements the slightly bitter and savoury Matcha green tea flavour. Both adzuki beans and Ceremonial Matcha are highly nutritious!
Ingredients:
Red Bean Paste:
- 1x 420gram can azuki beans (unsweetened) and drained
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 teaspoon coconut sugar or sweetener of choice
For the Matcha Red Bean Latte
- 1.5 teaspoon Ceremonial Matcha Powder
- 250mL warm water
- 250mL oat milk
- Ice optional
How to
- Drain the canned azuki beans and rinse thoroughly.
- Add the beans to a pot and add in the sugar and water.
- Allow this to boil and using a fork, mash the red beans. Continue to do this until the water has boiled off and there is only soft mashed red beans in the pot.
- Allow the sweet red beans to cool.
- Whisk the matcha powder and warm water together using our bamboo whisk.
- To assemble the drink, grab a tall glass and scoop 2-3 tablespoons of the sweet red bean to the bottom of the cup.
- Add in ice at this stage if you want it cold.
- Add in the oat milk and top it off with your Matcha.
- Stir and drink. Use a straw that is large enough to sip up the red beans too!
