Quick and Easy Matcha Cruffins

Quick and Easy Matcha Cruffins

Buttery, crispy and full of layers. This easy Matcha Cruffin recipe only needs 4 ingredients and is simple to make. The fragrant green tea flavour gives a light and delicate balance to the rich butteriness of the pastry layers.

They look impressive and don't require much effort so are perfect if you are short on time or feeling a little lazy.

I love using a high quality Ceremonial Matcha tea because the green tea flavour is more pronounced, it is less bitter and the colour is much more vibrant. Often poor quality Matcha can be bitter and more sugar is needed to disguise the flavour. When using a high quality Matcha, less sugar is needed to enjoy the the flavours.

We found this recipe originally from a blog https://www.siftandsimmer.com/ and so we had to test it out! We've tweaked it a tiny tiny bit.

matcha green tea Ruffin easy recipe

Ingredients: makes 8

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry, any store bought one is fine.
  • 2 tablespoon melted butter + a little more to grease the muffin tin
  • 1 tablespoon High Quality Matcha
  • 2 tablespoon sugar/coconut sugar

How to:

  1. On a sheet of pastry, brush a generous amount of melted butter.
  2. Prepare the muffin tin by brushing it with melted butter.
  3. Mix the sugar and Matcha together and sprinkle half the amount over the buttered sheet of pastry.
  4. Gently roll the sheet of pastry into a long log and cut the log in half so you now have two shorter logs.
  5. Then cut one again down the middle, lengthways, so you have four equal portions. The Matcha sugar should now be visible and exposed.
    See video for reference.
  6. Twirl each portion of pastry into a coil with the matcha sugar exposed on the outside. This step can be a bit messy.
  7. Place each coiled pastry into the muffin tin.
  8. Repeat this for the other sheet of pastry.
  9. Bake in the oven at 180 degree celsius for 45 minutes. Watch them puff up in the oven!
  10. Take them out, allow them to cool.
  11. Brush them with a little maple syrup and dust it off with a little more matcha. Or pipe them with a little cream once they have fully cooled down.

There are so many fluffy layers and the outer shell is nice and crispy. Enjoy them with a cup of fresh matcha tea for a delicious pastry break.
